Donald Elwood “Donnie” Palmer Jr., 76, of Hagerstown, died Saturday June 11, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 29, 1935, in Washington County to the late Donald Elwood Palmer Sr. and Kathryn Elizabeth (Spigler) Palmer.

He attended Williamsport schools.

He was self-employed as owner-operater of Donnie E. Palmer Body Shop of Williamsport and previously of Pinesburg.

Throughout his life he enjoyed the complete restoration and painting of antique automobiles. In the past he did specialty overall paint restoration jobs on automobiles for NFL stars, local lawyers and doctors. He was previously employed by Hess Auto Body, Sharrett Volkswagen and WD Byron Tannery.

He enjoyed his family and many friends. Donnie loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting and walking, as well as watching NASCAR, golf and other sports. In his early years, he enjoyed building and racing his own cars.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne E. Palmer of Hagerstown; son, Rodney Palmer of Williamsport; daughter, Krista Daniel and her husband, Tad, of Hagerstown; son, Eric Palmer of Hagerstown; sister Joann Rowland and her husband, Ted, of Williamsport; sister, Carolyn Hammond and her husband, Joe, of Williamsport; brother, Kenneth Palmer and his wife, Donna, of Williamsport; brother, Marvin Palmer and his wife, Kay, of Williamsport; brother, James Palmer and friend, Judy, of Waynesboro, Pa.; also six grandchildren, Bradley, Dustin, Kylynn, Kassie, Aaron and Ashton Palmer; and one great-grandchild, Timmy Miles III.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Robert “Bobby” Wayne Palmer; granddaughter, Alicia Marie Palmer; brother, Ronald Eugene “Abe” Palmer Sr.; and a sister, Peggy A. Palmer.

Services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
