Apple Valley Waste awarded Funkstown trash contract

June 13, 2011

FUNKSTOWN — Apple Valley Waste will take over trash collection for Funkstown beginning in July, Town Clerk/Treasurer Brenda Haynes said Monday night.

The Funkstown Town Council voted 4-0 Monday night to award the one-year waste collection contract to Apple Valley Waste, which had the lowest bid at $54,661. Council members John Phillips III and Richard L. Gaver were absent during the vote. Gaver showed up late to the meeting due to a Boy Scouts commitment.

Apple Valley held the contract during the 2009-10 fiscal year. Key Sanitation has the current contract that expires at the end of the month.

Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr. told a Key Sanitation official, in attendance at the meeting, that Key did a wonderful job and the town had no problems with its service.

Trash pickup will continue to be on Thursdays, and yard clippings will be picked up on Tuesdays.

The other bidders were Key Sanitation, $57,316; Allied Waste Services, $65,568; and Waste Management, $67,513, according to bid information provided during the meeting at Town Hall.
