Four receive BCA scholarships

Breast Cancer Awareness Cumberland Valley awarded scholarships  to four Tri-State area students.

The students chosen have had their lives affected by breast cancer through a family member who has dealt with a diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

  • Lindsay Hadley received a $1,500 scholarship comprised of funds from the $500 Sunny England Memorial Scholarship from James and Georgia Pierne, the $500 Paige Glessner Hershey Memorial Scholarship from the Glessner Family, the $250 Mary Ellen Thomas Memorial Scholarship from Dr. Jeffrey J. Rubino, DDS, and the $250 BCA-CV Survivorship Scholarship from the Gregory Fell Family. Lindsay is a third-year student at Shepherd University.
  • Katherine Miller received the $1,000 Paige Hershey Memorial Scholarship Fund from John and Natalie Hershey. Katherine recently graduated from Boonsboro High School.
  • Tessa Walls received the $500 Joann Elevia Elliott Memorial Scholarship from Merle S. Elliott. essa is a student at Hagerstown Community College and will attend the University of Maryland in College Park in the fall.
  • Kiersten Grey Albert received the $500 Wilma Jeanne Popp Memorial Scholarship from Dan and Connie Spreng. Kiersten is graduating from Waynesboro (Pa.) Area Senior High School and will be attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Students submitted applications that included an essay about how breast cancer has affected their lives.

Breast cancer touches the whole family and these students' lives have been affected by this disease, giving them a deeper understanding of the courage and strength of cancer patients.

The BCA-CV Scholarship Fund was founded to help students reach their educational goals.
