Smithsburg's Willard to play in all-star game at Camden Yards

Smithsburg’s Ryne Willard will participate in the Brooks Robinson All-Star Game on Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Willard, who hit .508 for the Leopards this year, is one of five infielders on the North team. The game, featuring Maryland’s top high school players, will be played following the Baltimore-Tampa Bay game, which starts at 1 p.m.

North Hagerstown coach Steve Myers will serve as one of the North coaches.

Hagerstown resident Smith to play in all-star game

Hagerstown resident Amanda Smith, a recent graduate of Pfeiffer University in North Carolina, will play in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association North-South All-Star games Saturday in Downington, Pa. She will play for the South team in the Division II game.

Smith, a defenseman, was named a second-team Division II All-American by the ILWCA. At Pfeiffer, she set a school record for caused turnovers in a career.

Smith is an assistant coach with the Hagerstown YMCA youth lacrosse program.
