For Our Kids' Sake bus trip funds sought

The coordinators of the For Our Kids' Sake bus trip would like to thank all who have participated in their fundraisers, but additional funds are still needed to make the trip a success this summer.

Each summer, the group takes local children on a bus trip for a day at an amusement park.

Movie night

The first movie sponsored by West Side Church will be shown Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on the Memorial Recreation Center's parking lot.

Those ages 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.     

Don't forget your lawn chair.

The next movie dates scheduled are July 9 and Aug. 13. Sponsors are needed. If you are interested in sponsoring a movie night for families, the cost is $150.

Mobile food pantry to be at church June 20

A mobile food pantry, sponsored by Maryland Food Banks and hosted by Otterbein United Methodist Church, will be held Monday, June 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the church parking lot, 108 E. Franklin St.

This is a one-time, two-hour food "drop" for neighborhood residents to receive at least 45 pounds (four bags) of food per household (maximum six bags for larger families).

Pooch Plunge

The date has changed for the eighth annual Pooch Plunge at Potterfield Pool. This year the event will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the pool at 730 Frederick St. in Hagerstown.

The price of admission is $5 for a dog and companion team and $2 for each additional dog and/or person. Proceeds from the event benefit the Humane Society ofWashington County.

Hosted by the Humane Society and the city of Hagerstown Parks and Recreation Department, the event has been an attraction for the past seven years. An estimated 200 dogs and 288 humans attended the event in 2010.

Book Club

The Sisters in Spirit book club will get together Sunday at 3 p.m.
