C&O Canal boat ramp, Brunswick campground to be closed June 13-15

June 09, 2011

BRUNSWICK, Md. — The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park boat ramp facility near Brunswick will be from June 13 through June 15, the National Park Service said in a news release.

The temporary closure is a result of CSX closing the South Maple Crossing closest to the C&O Canal National Historic Park to replace rails and ties, and install a geometry change to improve train safety, the release said.

Due to the temporary closure of Maple Avenue, the C&O Canal boat ramp facility and parking area near Brunswick will be inaccessible by motor vehicle traffic, according to the release.

The Town of Brunswick campground facility will also be inaccessible and temporarily closed, the park service said.

Visitors hiking and biking on the canal towpath will not be impacted by the temporary closure or nearby construction. Those seeking a boat ramp facility should access nearby boat ramp locations south at Lander or Nolands Ferry, or north at Dargan Bend, according to the release.

Parking will be available at the Weaverton and Lander park access points.
