Walter Edward Kohler, 85, of Maugansville, Md., passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

Born April 13, 1926, in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter T. Kohler and the late Florence Kloss Kohler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn S. Kohler, in 2007, and daughter, Kathryn M. Kohler.

He was employed at Mack Trucks Inc., retiring after many years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, U.A.W. Local 171, Knights of Columbus Thomas Pangborn Lodge, Cumberland Valley Woodworkers Club and the Miniature Carousel Builders Club.

After retirement from Mack Trucks, he was a prolific woodworker, building miniature model carousels and trains.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary K. Stealey and husband, David, of Hagerstown, and Susan Heck and husband, Doug, of Sykesville, Md.; one sister, Helen Koenig and husband, Leroy, of Hollsopple, Pa.; and one brother, Herbert Kohler of Maugansville.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Milavec, and brothers, John and Francis Kohler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Martin Nocchi as the celebrant.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, on Friday, June 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be held on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Geistown, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
