Dryer fire reported at Hagerstown hotel

A fire started inside a dryer Monday afternoon in a laundry room at Hagerstown Hotel and Convention Center on Dual Highway, according to the chief of the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co.

Firefighters put out the fire, which was contained to the dryer, Dave Fraley said.

There was smoke on the first and second floors of the hotel, and firefighters ventilated the floors to remove it, Fraley said.

“I think all the guests were out. All the workers were here,” Fraley said.

No one was hurt in the fire, which was reported at 3:50 p.m., officials said.

Fraley said he does not know what caused the fire and that the state fire marshal’s office will investigate.

Rescuers from Funkstown, Hagerstown and Halfway responded to the fire, Fraley said.
