David Warren Shaw, 85, of Woodburn Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, at his home.

Born Friday, July 3, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Nathaniel Ellsworth Shaw and the late Nettie Austin Benson Shaw.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Anne Shaw, in 1985.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1943. He was employed at Western Maryland Supply, retiring in 1995 after 50 years of service.

He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as an infantry rifle squad leader in France and Germany. He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and Elks Lodge 378, and a former member of Fountain Head Country Club.

He is survived by his son, David Stephen Shaw of South Carolina;  two sisters, Ethel Rinehart of Washington, D.C., and Dr. Elsie M. Roush of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Robert E. Shaw of Hagerstown; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Laign Shaw; sister, Mary Virginia Warner; and brother, Cecil B. Shaw.

Services will be Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Randall S. Reid officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, June 10, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
