Person extricated from overturned vehicle

Rescue crews had to extricate a person from an overturned vehicle in Hagerstown’s West End on Saturday night, according to Washington County Emergency Services.

The person was taken to Meritus Medical Center, a 911 dispatcher said.

The vehicle hit a parked car and overturned at the intersection of West Franklin Street and West Side Avenue shortly before 9:50 p.m. Saturday, the dispatcher said.

Young bear killed by car


WILLIAMSPORT — A young male black bear weighing about 120 pounds was killed Friday night after a car hit it on Interstate 81, between Md. 68 and the Potomac River bridge, said Sgt. Brian Albert with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police.

No one in the car was hurt during the 6:30 p.m. accident, Albert said.

Another bear was hit by a car on U.S. 340 in Frederick County, Md., near the Potomac River at 2 p.m. Friday and another was seen in Allegany County, Md., late last week, Albert said.

This time of year , mother bears put their 15- to 18-month-old young out on their own so the younger bears are looking for new territory, Albert said.

Two rescued from boat

BRUNSWICK, Md. — Brunswick firefighters rescued two people Saturday morning from a boat on the Potomac River near Brunswick, said Sgt. Brian Albert with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police.

The boat hit a rock, which caused a hole in the boat, Albert said. Water was coming in faster than the boat’s occupants could bail it out, Albert said.

The boat ended up on the Virginia side of the river, he said.

  • A burglary was reported in the 22100 block of Leitersburg Smithsburg Road.
  • A burglary was reported in the 18000 block of Showalter Road.
  • A theft was reported in the 11100 block of Medical Campus Road.
  • A theft was reported in the 10500 block of Honeyfield Road.
  • A theft was reported on McGregor Drive.
  • A theft was reported in the 11300 block of Youngstoun Drive.
  • A theft was reported in the 18700 block of North Pointe Drive.
  • A dress was reported stolen in the 600 block of Premium Outlets Boulevard.
  • A theft was reported in the 17300 block of Valley Mall Road.
  • A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of Bentley Court.
  • A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 11200 block of Lakeside Drive.
