Lewis Wingert Duffey Jr., 65, of  Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown after a long illness.

Born Tuesday, Aug. 28, 1945, in Funkstown, Md., he was the son of the late Lewis Wingert Duffey Sr. and the late Hazel Lorraine Shoemaker Duffey.

He was a 1963 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. He worked with numerous radio stations and also in the insurance industry. He enjoyed writing and had two books published. He was also a member of the R.O.M.E.O. club.

He is survived by his wife, Ann S. Duffey; two daughters, Susan L. Valentine of Greencastle, Pa., and Beth Ann Dearing of Hagerstown; one son, David Lewis Duffey of Hagerstown; a sister, Marie Hess of Hagerstown; and brother, James Duffey of Hagerstown;  six grandchildren, Cody Valentine, Gunnar Valentine, Jesse Valentine, Huck Dearing, Ella Duffey and Willow Duffey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Virgil Wagaman.

Graveside services will be held Monday, June 6, 2011, at 2 p.m., at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, with the  Rev. Douglas A. Courter officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, June 5.
