Shepherd faculty members honored at scholars convocation

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Four Shepherd faculty members were awarded outstanding faculty medals in teaching, research, service, and advising during Shepherd University's McMurran Scholars convocation on April 29.

The awards were presented by SU Dean Laura Renninger and SU President Suzanne Shipley.

The Outstanding Service Award was given to Rebecca Mercado, assistant professor of education.

The Outstanding Scholar Award was given to Joseph Robbins, assistant professor of political science.

The Outstanding Advisor Award was given to Gordon DeMeritt, department chair and associate professor of business administration.

The Outstanding Teacher Award was given to Carol Plautz, assistant professor of biology.

Winners of the four awards received a special medal and their name was added to the Outstanding Faculty Awards plaque on display in the Howard N. Carper Jr. Learning Commons in the Scarborough Library of Shepherd. They also received a $500 professional development stipend.
