To all of this year's high school and college graduates in the Tri-State area. Obtaining a diploma is the culmination of many years of hard work, and each graduate deserves a tip of the cap for his or her efforts.

To the Nora Roberts Foundation, which has awarded a $100,000 grant to McDaniel College in Westminster, Md., to help advance the study of romance literature. Roberts, a best-selling author of more than 200 romance novels, lives in Keedysville.

To local students Tyler Reese and Yagna Deep Vudathu, who competed this week in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Reese, a 14-year-old from Greencastle, Pa., attends Heritage Academy. Vudathu, 13, attends South Middle School in Martinsburg, W.Va.
