Historian Ed Bearss to speak about the Battle of Guadalcanal at June 1 event

A historian who contributed to the Ken Burns documentary, "The Civil War," will speak Wednesday, June 1, during an event sponsored by the Potomac Highlands World War II Roundtable.

Ed Bearss will speak about the Battle of Guadalcanal, roundtable President Chip Zimmert said. In addition to being a Civil War historian, Bearss served on Guadalcanal with the 3rd Marine Raider Battalion.

Zimmer said the event, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Morris Frock American Legion at 405 Northern Ave. in Hagerstown, is free and open to the public.
