Chicken barbecue June 4 at Hilltop Christian Fellowship

Hilltop Christian Fellowship, 12624 Trinity Church Drive, Clear Spring, will hold its annual chicken barbecue Saturday, June 4, at 5 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the free event. Bring a lawn chair and join church members for an evening of fun and food.

Celebration of weddings

St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clear Spring will hold a celebration of weddings Sunday, June 26.

The celebration will honor anyone married at St. John’s. The church is looking forward to having folks join them for worship that day as well as for a special program. Call the church office at 301-842-2500 to register.

There will be a reception following the service. Families and friends are invited to join in the celebration.

Car wash

The Future Business Leaders of America from Clear Spring High School will hold a car wash at Weller’s Service Center Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (weather permitting).

Also, on Sunday, June 5, the FBLA will hold a chicken barbecue next to the Wacohu Grange at Huyetts Crossroads, from 10:30 a.m. until sold out.

The cost is $7 per meal and includes 1/2 of a barbecue chicken, coleslaw, baked beans and a roll. The meals will be prepared by Ernst Market.

Giveaway

St. Paul United Methodist Church, 11404 Tedrick Drive in Big Pool, will hold a giveaway Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The public is invited. The event will be held rain or shine. Donated items, such as clothes, shoes and household items will be part of the giveaway.

Steak feed

The Hagerstown Shriners will hold a steak feed Saturday at Wilson Ruritan. The gates open at 4 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5.

The menu includes steak, baked potato, salad and dessert. The meal costs $20 per person.

Did you know?

Did you know that there once was a bakery and ice cream parlor in the town of Clear Spring? Clarence Pound and his partner, B.H. Beard, opened the bakery in 1916.

The oven in the bakery was from Germany and during World War I some people refused to buy their bread because the oven had come from Germany. It was called Pound’s Bakery and later became Clopper’s Market.
