Blues Fest Schedule

THURSDAY, JUNE 2 - BLUES PRELUDE

University Plaza, 50 W. Washington St., downtown Hagerstown. Free admission.

Lawn chairs and blankets Encouraged. Gates open at 4 p.m. ID required.

Skyla Burrell Band — 5 to 7:00 p.m.

Immediately following the show, there will be an artistreception at Washington County Arts Council, 14 W. Washington St., downtown Hagerstown. The opening reception for the Blues Fest artist's show will be held on Thursday, June 2 from 6 to  until 9 p.m. following the Blues Prelude at University Plaza.

FRIDAY, JUNE 3 - LOTTA BLUES KICKOFF

City Central Lot, North Potomac Street, downtown Hagerstown. (Limited admission) $20 in advance* and $25 at the gate; $7 children 6 to 12 years old. Free for children 5 and younger. Gates open at 4p.m. ID required.

Ernie Hawkins Band (Lecture/Performance Workshop) — Noon to 12:45 p.m.

Texas Blues Guitar: This is a hands-on workshop introducing the basics of single-base fingerpicking. Although not confined to Texas players, this style was made famous by guys like Lightnin' Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb, To supplement the workshop, Ernie has teaching DVDs available revealing the styles of these two great Texas bluesmen. Hopefully, the participant will walk out of this workshop with some of the fundamentals of this style at his, or her, fingertips.

North High Jazz Ensemble — 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Toby Walker (lecture/performance workshop) — 2 to 2:45 p.m.

North High Jazz Ensemble — 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Special combination tickets for Friday and Saturday, two days for $50

*Transaction fee of $2.50 per ticket applies to advance sale tickets.

Schedule and artists subject to change. No chairs, coolers, food or beverages may be brought into the festival area Friday or Saturday. No animals (except service animals) and no audio/video recording permitted at any time during the festival. All packs, parcels and bags subject to inspection.

Exhibition

Waynesboro artist Suzee White, the 2011 Blues Fest artist will be the featured artist at the Washington County Arts Council gallery during June 2011. The opening reception for the Blues Fest artist's show will from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 2, following the Blues Prelude at University Plaza.

Also exhibiting the blues.

• Photographer Jamie Turner will exhibit "Black, White, and Blues..." in the North Gallery.

• Scott Cawood Maryland State Arts Council recipient of a 2010 Individual Artist Awards  for Visual Arts: Sculpture will display three blues sculptures.

The exhibits run from Thursday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 29. WCAC Gallery is located at 14 W Washington Street, just off the square in downtown Hagerstown.
