Museum to host local artists¿ exhibit

The 79th annual Cumberland Valley Artists Exhibition at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will be on view from June 4 through Sept. 4, in the museum’s Groh Gallery. It is sponsored by Bob and Mary Helen Strauch, and Hugh and Marty Talton.  

The exhibition showcases artists of the region. The judge for this year’s exhibition was Philip Lindsey, a professor at Wilson College, where he teaches painting, drawing and computer graphics. A total of 169 works of art were submitted for consideration and 47 works were accepted.

Works of art in the exhibition are available for purchase through the museum shop.

This year’s opening reception and awards ceremony will be Sunday, June 12, in conjunction with the ribbon cutting and open house for the museum’s new courtyard atrium.

The event begins at 2 p.m. with the dedication of the courtyard atrium, followed by a reception at 2:30 p.m.

Saturday —  Bob O’Connor, Civil War author, will give a presentation at Discovery Station.

Today — Grade-four spring instrumental music concert, 6:30 p.m.

Mr. South High Pageant

South Hagerstown High School will host the Mr. South High Pageant on Wednesday, May 25, at 7 p.m. in the South High auditorium.

Contestants will strut their stuff in casual, evening clothing. There also will be a talent category, and each contestant will answer a question from the judges.

The winner will receive a free yearbook and other prizes. There also will be an audience vote for the most popular contestant. Raffles also will be offered.

Admission fee for the pageant is $2 for students and $4 for nonstudents. Those younger than 4 will be admitted free.
