Grayson J. Michael, 89, of Wolfsville, Md., died Friday, May 20, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Married for 66 years, he was the husband of the late Ruth R. Michael, who preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2010.

Born July 6, 1921, in Myersville, Md., Grayson was the son of the late Charles S. and Lelah C. Palmer Michael.

Grayson was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wolfsville. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He farmed all of his life and retired in 1982 after 19 years with Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, and previously was employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.

Surviving Grayson are four children, Nelson Michael and wife, Grace, Janet Kline and husband, Leon, Sharon Grove and husband, Denny, and Brent Michael and, wife Cindy; 12 grandchildren, Brenda Hoffman and husband, Leif, Debbie Smith, Nelson Lynn Michael and wife, Cindy, Brandon Michael and wife, Candice, Eric Kline and wife, Stephanie, Shannon Tregoing and husband, Jon, Cindy Eckstein and husband, Joseph, Stacia Fromm, Christina Fromm, Adam Michael, Chad Michael and Lisa Michael; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd, Reno and Clarence Michael; and sisters, Leona Newman, Viola Cline and Edna Schroyer.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, with Pastor David Howell officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Marine Corps League Bulldog Detachment and AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville.
