Saint James 9, Flint Hill 6

OAKTON, Va. — Ryan Doyle had four goals and two assists to lift the Saints to a Mid-Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinal victory over Flint Hill.

Andrew Ludwick and Ben Louderback each had two goals, and Ludwick added an assist for Saint James (12-6), which will play in the championship game at Potomac School on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Jamie Peterson had a goal and four assists, and Kevin McCormack and Hal Smith each added an assist for the Saints. Tommy Wagner made 10 saves.

Century 22, S. Hagerstown 1

SYKESVILLE, Md. — Troy McGee scored the only goal for South Hagerstown in a Maryland Class 3A-2A West first-round playoff loss to Century.

Drake Kessell made 17 saves for South (0-12).


N. Hagerstown 13, Einstein 6

KENSINGTON, Md. — Maddie Palkovitz and Anna Compton each scored three goals to lead North Hagerstown to a first-round victory over Einstein in the Maryland Class 3A-2A West tournament.

Deanna Brunner and Kelsey Smith each had two goals, while Kristen Mazzei, Samantha Culp and Pat Tolbert each scored one for the Hubs, who will host Frederick on Saturday.

Emma Moss had 10 saves for North.


Washington 8, Jefferson 7

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Washington charged ahead of Jefferson early and then shocked the Cougars with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to post the upset win in the West Virginia Class AAA Region II Section 2 playoffs.

Washington (15-13) and Jefferson (27-7) will meet today in the deciding game of the best-of-3 series.

After scoring six runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 lead, Jefferson fought back with six runs in the third.

Ryan Pansch came on in relief for Washington and slammed the door on Jefferson with 3 2-3 innings of relief with five strikeouts. Pansch also had two hits and two RBIs.

Chambersburg 5, Gettysburg 1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Kyle Patterson tossed a two-hitter to lead Chambersburg (15-4) for his first win of the season.

Patterson struck out only two but recorded 13 ground ball outs in a 76-pitch effort.

Zane Bard and Nick Graham each had two hits and drove in a run.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Waynesboro (8-10) scored six runs in the first four innings and routed South Western.

Ethan Klink, John Barr and Cole Warrenfeltz each hit solo home runs for the Indians, while Jesse Francis had with three hits.

POTOMAC, Md. — Jeff Cook led Saint James with two hits and three RBIs in the Saints’ first Mid Atlantic Conference win since 2009. Seong-Gon Yoo and Bobby Leatherman each had two hits and two RBIs and Jamie Howard had three hits and an RBI for the Saints (4-11, 1-9).

Bishop Walsh 10, Heritage 3

Seth Amezcum hit a three-run homer to lead Bishop Walsh past Heritage Academy in the Maryland State Private B Tournament Thursday.

The Spartans used a four-run fourth inning that included four doubles to secure a six-run lead. Colton Matthews led Bishop Walsh with three hits and Kevin Myers and Sam Wilson had two hits each.

Kyle Smith led Heritage with two hits.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Dani Miller drive in the go-ahead run with an RBI triple in a two-run second inning to lead Waynesboro to a non-league victory over South Western.

Miller finishes with three hits and two RBIs for Waynesboro (10-8), while Hannah Zimmerman had two hits and an RBI. Megan Baker had an RBI double.

Callie Good pitched the complete-game victory, with two strikeouts.

Shepherd’s Minnich named WVIAC Co-Player of the Year

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Shepherd University’s Nathan Minnich, a Waynesboro High graduate, was named West Virginia Conference Hitter of the Year and shared WVIAC Player of the Year honors with West Virginia Wesleyan’s Cy Mozingo.

Minnich, a junior, started all 37 games and batted .433 with nine doubles, 14 homers, 38 RBIs and 42 runs scored. Minnich is third in NCAA Division II in on base percentage (.553), fourth in home runs per game (0.38), fourth in slugging percentage (.858), tied for 10th in home runs (14) and 11th in batting average.

Shepherd freshman Aaron Scoville garnered honorable mention All-WVIAC honors. He batted .357 with 16 RBIs and 32 runs scored.
