Town eyes 6.5 percent water hike

FUNKSTOWN — A preliminary budget being considered for the town of Funkstown will include a proposed 6.5 percent water rate increase, Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr. said Monday night.

The city of Hagerstown, which supplies Funkstown's water, has informed the town it will increase its rates to the town by 6.5 percent, Crampton said after a Funkstown Town Council meeting.

Crampton said he expects the council to pass the rate increase onto the town's water customers.

A work session on the preliminary budget is scheduled for May 16 at 7 p.m.

More town hall painting bids sought

FUNKSTOWN — Funkstown is looking for bids for additional town hall painting, town officials said at a Funkstown Town Council meeting Monday night.

The bids will be for painting the building's steeple, trim and a front brick wall, Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr. said.

The work should make town hall "a little more presentable," said Crampton, who noted that more painting on the building will probably be done next year.

The condition of town hall has been discussed over the last year.

Town Clerk/Treasurer Brenda Haynes said previously that there are occasions after storms when she goes to leave town hall and discovers that pieces of brick have fallen from the building.

The building used to be a church.

The town will accept painting bids until June 8 at 3 p.m., town officials said.
