A benefit classic car cruise-in will take place Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. on Conococheague Street in downtown Williamsport. Cars should enter from Salisbury Street.
The event includes entertainment by Dogfoot, children's games, balloon animals, 50/50, and a drawing for dinner for two at Bulls & Bears.
A donation of $5 per car is requested. The event benefits Kristy Danfelt to help cover cancer treatment expenses. The rain date is Friday, May 13.
Grand opening planned for Desert Rose Cafe
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting is planned for Desert Rose Cafe & Catering at its new location, 42 N. Conococheague St., on Friday in conjunction with the cruise-in.
Owner Rose Harris has more than tripled her café's serving and seating capacity, while maintaining its local charm and revitalizing that corner of Conococheague and Potomac streets.
New hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 301-223-6400.
Homewood's strawberry fest is a favorite
Love strawberries? Then come to Homewood at Williamsport, 16505 Virginia Ave., for its annual strawberry fest Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Food, arts and crafts, and children's games are planned.
Community band to hold spring concert
Spend Mother's Day with the Williamsport Community Band, conducted by Susie Kunkle. The band will hold its 13th annual spring concert Sunday at Springfield Farm Barn. Enter by Springfield Lane off U.S. 11. The free concert begins at 3 p.m.
Zumba with Anita set to begin
Zumba classes with certified and licensed instructor Anita Binder start Monday at St. Mark's Parish Hall, 18313 Lappans Road. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, classes begin at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. Classes cost $2 each when purchasing a 15-class punch card. Drop-in fee is $5 per class.

Yard sale planned with an interesting twist
Van Lear Brethren in Christ Church, 10745 Van Lear Drive, will hold a yard sale Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Here's an interesting twist. The yard sale will feature a recyclable electronics turn-in, so bring your old cell phones, DVDs, game sets, etc. (no TVs or such appliances, please.)
