First Fridays begin this week

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — The Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce and FreeMind are launching the 2011 First Fridays Mercersburg season on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Twenty vendors have signed up, according to Chamber Executive Director Mary-Anne Gordon.

Event sponsor Columbia Gas will be in the square with children's activities. Whitetail Resort will have information about its summer camp, and it sponsored the music in front of Flannery's Tavern. Acoustic guitar player Brennan Elliott of Chambersburg, Pa., will perform from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and The Pale Barn Ghosts will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Handcrafted jewelry will be available, as well as rustic birdhouses, Mother's Day flowers and art.

Mercersburg Council for the Arts will offer an interactive community canvas and face painting, while Tower Bank will give away balloons to children. Flannery's Tavern will offer a free Long Trail Ale beer tasting.

Food will be available from Romeo's & Juliet's, which will be set up on the street. Other restaurants will be open.

The east side of the square and East Seminary Street will be closed to traffic and parking from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.
