Basket bingo planned

Keedysville Ruritan Club will hold a basket bingo Saturday, May 7, at the Little Antietam Community Center on Mount Vernon Drive in Keedysville.

Tickets cost $15. The doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 6 p.m.  

There will be 25 games plus a mystery game, tip jars and a basket raffle (baskets will be filled). There will be Mother's Day baskets. Food will be available.  

Proceeds will benefit the club's scholarship funds and community service projects.

Fire company plans dinner

Potomac Valley Fire Co. in Dargan will hold a steak feed Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the fire hall. Tickets cost $15 per person, which includes steak, baked potato, baked beans, green beans, cole slaw and rolls. For more information, call Nancy at 301-432-2938 or the fire station at 301-432-2130.

St. Luke's to hold yard sale

 St. Luke's Episcopal Church, at 2150 Boteler Road in Brownsville, will hold a yard sale Saturday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Table rentals cost $10. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Strawberry Festival set

Rohrersville Ruritan will hold a Strawberry Festival Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 12, from 9 a.m.  to  4 p.m.  

A community yard sale will be held during the festival. Spaces cost $10 for a 12-by-12-foot space.  The event will include food, entertainment and a community church service. The festival committee is still in need of another entertainment act (music group) and is also looking for car and/or tractor displays.

Zumba with Anita  

Anita Binder will offer summer Zumba classes at St. Mark's Parish Hall, 18313 Lappans Road in Boonsboro running Monday, May 9 through Wednesday, Aug. 22.

 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday classes begin at 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Classes cost $2 when purchasing a 15-class punch card. The drop-in fee costs $5 per class.

Class punch cards are valid to be used at both St. Mark's and Mount Nebo classes. The classes are for those ages 13 and older.  Binder is a certified group fitness instructor and a licensed Zumba Instructor.

Rohrersville band to play  

The Rohrersville Cornet Band, organized in 1837, will perform a spring concert at the Band Hall on Main Street in Rohrersville Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m. Holly Feather will direct. This is the first appearance of the band in its 175th year. Admission is free. Refreshments will be available.

Master Gardeners offer workshop  

The Washington County Master Gardeners will offer a trellis workshop Saturday, May 14, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ag Center on the Sharpsburg Pike.  Participants will learn which plants grow well on trellises, different trellis styles and get hands-on experience building a trellis. Center provides free answers  

The University of Maryland Home and Garden Information Center phone hot line and website provides free answers to gardening questions and access to hundreds of free garden publications.  Master gardeners staff a toll-free hot line Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Anyone can ask a gardening question or get help diagnosing a garden problem by calling 1-800-342-2507.  Residents can also submit questions electronically by going to  Click on the "Send a Question — FAQ" tab on the left and follow the directions. Gardeners can also submit a digital photo.
