William G. "Willie" Shank, 77, of  Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Golden Living Center, Hagerstown.

Born Saturday, June 10, 1933, in Smithsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Paul B. Shank and Harriet Hiteshew Shank. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mae Shank, in 1995.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1951. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean War. He was employed with Fairchild Aircraft and later retired from Mack Trucks Inc. in 1991 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Friendship Lodge 84, Scottish Rite 32nd degree, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 95, Tall Cedars Foundation, AMVETS Post 10, VFW Post 1936, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Legion of Honor, Last Man's Club of the Korean War, Eagles Aeire Lodge 694, U.A.W. Local 171, Ali Ghan Shrine Temple of Cumberland, Md., Hagerstown Junior Fire Engine Co. No. 3 of Hagerstown and Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.

He is survived by his son, William Charles Shank and wife, Linda, of Hagerstown; granddaughter, Amy R. Moats and husband, Richard, of Hagerstown; great-granddaughter, Emma R. Moats of Hagerstown; and special friend, Darlene White of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Lee Shank; and sisters, Virginia L. Colwell and Lucy G. Young.

Services will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown with the Rev. Clark D. Carr officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 25. A Masonic memorial service will held at 6 p.m. Monday.

Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
