Ralph Ted Guessford, 81, of 122 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Sept. 3, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Russell D. and Bertha Irvin Guessford.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Guessford, who died in 1990.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He was employed for 40 years with Marquette Cement, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the Clear Spring American Legion, Post 222; Waynesboro Moose Lodge; V.F.W. Post 1936; Eagles No. 758 of Waynesboro; Williamsport Red Men, Conococheague Tribe No. 84; and a life member of Goodwill Athletic Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane Schubert of Newport, Pa.; a son, Robert A. Guessford of Sherman Dale, Pa.; two sisters, Dorothy Kline and Mildred Ebersole, both of Hagerstown; and a granddaughter, Melanie Schubert of Newport, Pa.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Straub; and five brothers, Keller, Roy, Paul, Alfred "Gismo" and Bobby Guessford.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Rev. Linda Reese will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Graveside military honors will be conducted by AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
