Washington County unemployment rate fell to 9.9 percent in March

BALTIMORE — Washington County's unemployment rate dipped slightly last month, moving from 10.6 percent in February to 9.9 percent in March, according to figures released Friday by Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

That was higher than Maryland's March unemployment rate of 7 percent, and the national March rate of 8.8 percent.

The number of people employed in the county in March was listed at 61,171, an increase of 992 people on the job than in February, when 60,180 people were employed, the report says.

The jobless rate for Hagerstown was listed at 10.6 percent for March, a decline from February's figure of 10.9 percent, according to the report.

Maryland's jobless rate was 7 percent, down slightly from 7.3 percent in February, according to the report.
