Thefts, vandalism reported in Washington County

The following incidents were reported Tuesday and Wednesday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office:

• A television, an Apple iPhone and several other items were stolen in the 11000 block of Staley Drive.

• Vandalism in the 11300 block of Youngstoun Drive.

• Vandalism in the 13300 block of Fountain Head Road.

• A theft in the 11500 block of Rambling Pines Place.

Man charged in burglaries
A Washington County man has been charged in connection with several thefts and burglaries that were reported over the last eight months, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Matthew Stephen Morin, 25, of 20036 Trengail Road, was charged with two counts of theft of $10,000 to under $100,000, and one count of fourth-degree burglary, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Morin is accused of taking jewelry and gold coins from three Washington County residences from August to April, the release said.

Deputies said Morin was arrested Monday at his home.


Hagerstown man faces charges after traffic stop
FREDERICK, Md. — A Hagerstown man was arrested in Frederick Wednesday after troopers allegedly found drugs on him during a traffic stop.

Oscar Mocchi-Silvio, 43, of Hagerstown was pulled over on westbound Interstate 70 at about 7 p.m. Wednesday for driving a red Chevrolet Blazer 81 mph in a posted 65 mph zone, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

Upon continued investigation during the stop, Trooper 1st Class Christopher Mattingly of the Frederick Barrack found a controlled dangerous substance, suspected to be heroin, and paraphernalia on Mocchi-Silvio, State Police Sgt. Dave Keller said.

Mocchi-Silvio was arrested and taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center where he appeared before a District Court Commissioner, the release said.

Keller said Mocchi-Silvio remained in the detention center Wednesday night.
