HAGERSTOWN — People who are waiting until the last minute to file their income taxes in Hagerstown have until 5 p.m. today to get to the post office.
Yvette Singh, communications coordinator for the Baltimore District of the United States Postal Service, said post offices used to stay open late on the last day for filing income tax forms, but officials changed that policy because more people are filing their taxes electronically.
“There’s less demand for post offices to stay open late,” Singh said.
Singh said people who don’t make it to the post office by 5 p.m. can mail their taxes at a business in Frederick, Md. and at a post office in Baltimore.
A1 Services at 467 W. Patrick St. in Frederick will accept tax returns until 9 p.m., Singh said. The U.S. Post Office at 900 E. Fayette St. in Baltimore will accept taxes until midnight.
