Monroe drops HCC in two single-run outcomes

Hagerstown Community College dropped a pair of one-run games to Monroe on Sunday, falling 4-3 in the opener on an RBI single in the eighth inning, then losing 2-1 in the second game on a throwing error in the sixth inning.

Danny Morris had two of the Hawks’ five hits in the opener, while Tyeler Presgraves and Justin Martinez each drove in a run.

Seth Poffenberger had two of HCC’s four hits in the second game, and Martinez added an RBI single for the Hawks (24-16).

Alderson-Broaddus 5-10, Shepherd 4-2

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Alderson-Broaddus swept Shepherd University in a West Virginia Conference doubleheader on Sunday.

The Battlers (10-20, 9-8) rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the opener with four runs in the fourth inning. Mitch Roy hit a two-run double to key the rally.

Junior Nathan Minnich, a Waynesboro graduate, went 3-for-3 with an RBI double for the Rams (12-17, 7-14). Morgan Lautz went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
