Inwood woman dies, Hagerstown man airlifted from scene after motorcycle crash

INWOOD, W.Va. — An Inwood woman died and a Hagerstown man was airlifted from the scene following a motorcycle crash Thursday night on U.S. 11 between Darkesville and Inwood, according to West Virginia State Police.

Lorena Roberts, no age or address given, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 6850 Winchester Ave. (U.S. 11) , a state police news release said.

Roberts was a passenger on motorcycle traveling south on U.S. 11 that crashed into a utility pole and struck a parked car at about 11 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Roberts was found lying near a telephone pole. A resident of the area had been tending to her until emergency medical personnel arrived, according to the release.

Trooper J.D. Schuessler was advised that the operator of the motocyle had fled the scene. Following a serach by troopers and a state police K-9 unit, a man was found hiding near a residence off Sir Washington Street, the release said.

The man, identified as Steve Thompson of Hagerstown, was taken by EMS to Martinsburg Regional Airport and then airlifted to a Fairfax, Va., hospital, according to the release.

The details of this incident are under investigation, the release said. Police said more information would be released as it becomes available.
