Brandon M. Knight, son of Mark and Christy Eyler Knight of Smithsburg, and brother of Karah Knight, enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned on Oct. 13, to Fort Benning, Ga., home of the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center.

After 14 weeks of basic combat and Advanced Individual Training, he graduated Feb. 11 from the U.S. Army Infantry training school, Bravo Co., 2nd Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment.

On Feb. 10, in a ceremony known as "Turning Blue," Knight was awarded the U.S. Army Infantryman Blue Shoulder Cord and awarded the Expert Rifle Qualification Badge.

Following graduation, Knight was assigned to the U.S. Army Airborne School, Alpha Co., 1st Platoon, 1st Battalion, 507th Infantry (ABN) Training Regiment, Class 12-11, at Fort Benning.

After completing the three-week school and meeting the U.S. Army Airborne qualifications of five successful parachute jumps, Knight was awarded his Silver Jump Wings in a ceremony March 4.

Knight was reassigned to Fort Bragg, N.C., where he will begin the preselection (SOPC) and selection process for the U.S. Army Special Forces, to hopefully fulfill his final goal to become a U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret.

Knight is a 2008 graduate of Smithsburg High School and attended Hagerstown Community College.
