April 15, 2011

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Franklin County jury Friday found a baby sitter and a 10-year-old girl criminally responsible for the August 2010 death of 10-month old child.

Franklin County District Attorney Matthew D. Fogal said in an email to the media that the jury found that Heath Conrad Ryder of Amberson, Pa., died of abusive head trauma.

"And the jury has also found criminal responsibility for the babysitter and a 10-year-old girl," he wrote.

The jury reviewed the matter on Thursday and Friday acting as a coroner's inquest, Fogal wrote.

Procedurally, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner will review the jury's verdict and make a recommendation to the county district attorneys office about possible charges, he wrote.

Fogal did not detail what charges the jury recommended Friday.

"I will make the ultimate determination regarding whether any criminal charges will be filed," Fogal wrote.

Heath, who was the son of Mark and Shelly Ryder, was pronounced dead on Aug. 2, 2010 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
