Friday traffic update

Traffic updates from Herald-Mail mobile reporter Caleb Calhoun:

1:16 p.m.: Wesel Boulevard is undergoing major roadwork in both directions just north of its intersection with Halfway Boulevard. L. W. Wolfe Enterprises is updating the sewer system there. The company says construction in the area around the intersection will continue until Thanksgiving. Right now, traffic on Wesel Boulevard is one lane in each direction.

12:58 p.m. Northbound Virginia Avenue near Halfway Boulevard south of Hagerstown was blocked while the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway put out a fire in the backyard of 17729 Virginia Ave.

The street is cleared now but the firefighters are still working to put out the fire. There is the smell of  smoke in the area.

12:25 p.m.: Traffic is flowing little better now than it was this morning, but two roads remain closed due to single-vehicle accidents.

The northbound lane of Md. 26 at Crum Road in Frederick County is still closed. The southbound lane is being used for bidirectional traffic. The eastbound lanes of Md. 28 at Mouth of Monocacy Boulevard in Montgomery County are closed. The westbound lane is open and is being used for bidirectional traffic.

Hagerstown is seeing some sluggish traffic downtown and on Dual Highway.

There is also construction going on at I-70 westbound between East Patrick Street by Exit 56 in Frederick, and on Md. 68 for bridge repair near Williamsport. On I-270 northbound, one lane is also closed for road work just north of Park Mills Road.

In Frederick, traffic East Patrick Street is running very slow, but there are no major slowdowns anywhere else.


10:50 a.m.: The 500 block of Chestnut Street in Hagerstown was blocked off by police because of a vehicle fire that occurred less than an hour ago, but it has been reopened.

The Hagerstown Fire Department reports that there was one minor injury. Hagerstown Deputy Fire Marshal John Crist is still on the scene investigating what caused the fire. He says he hopes to be done soon.

10:03 a.m.: There is a vehicle fire in Hagerstown on the 500 block of Chestnut Street. Police have arrived on the scene and have reported one injury.

8:58 a.m.: Hagerstown is still seeing sluggish traffic and typical signal light delays at the Dual Highway, but that's it.

There is roadwork going on at Md. 68 (Lappans Road) just south of Williamsport, affecting traffic in both directions.

I-70 eastbound traffic is sluggish in the Hagerstown area and from Sykesville to Ellicott City, and there is construction on I-70 westbound between East Patrick Street and the 85/355 E St. exit near Frederick

Md. 26 traffic is still backed up in Walkersville because of an accident on Md. 26 at Krum Road.

Md. 28 is also still closed both ways in Montgomery County at Mouth of Monocacy Road due to a single-vehicle accident that happened earlier and is under investigation.

Traffic on I-270 southbound is sluggish from Frederick to Clarksburg and from Germantown to I-495.

I-81 and U.S. 340 is still clear in both directions, and there are still some signal light delays on Md. 355.

In Frederick, U.S. 15 southbound traffic is a little slow at the Golden Mile, and debris has been reported in the road at Hayward Road. Northbound traffic is sluggish at Jefferson Street. The Golden Mile itself is also a little sluggish.
