Boonsboro Historical Society to have guest speaker

The Boonsboro Historical Society will meet Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 64 S. Main St. in Boonsboro

Bob Savitt will speak on "The Turbulent '60s: A Multi-Media Presentation:  Nixon vs. Kennedy, the Cuban missile crisis, the Vietnam War, flower children, mini-skirts, the moon landing and McDonald's hamburgers."

He will use slides, photos, music, audio excerpts and magazines to recall the events and atmosphere  of the turbulent 1960s.

Savitt is a graduate of Colgate University and did his postgraduate work at Georgetown University. He has served in the Department of Defense and State Department and was legislative director for a U.S. senator.

He has authored articles on historic and other topics and has lectured widely in the area on 19th and 20th century history. His book on professional baseball in the Cumberland Valley in the 20th century is scheduled for July.
