April 13, 2011

BAKER HEIGHTS, W.Va. — A suspect with a black handgun took money from two cash registers in a 7-Eleven along W.Va. 9 near the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Wednesday morning, police said.

The suspect, believed to be a white male about 5 feet 10 inches tall, walked around the outside of the store for about 10 minutes before he went inside, according to a news release from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

After entering the store, the robber ordered an employee to a cash register and brandished the gun, said police, who were notified at 4:54 a.m., according to the release.

After demanding money from two cash registers, he ran out of the store, the release said.

A second store worker called 911, the release said.

The robber got into a dark vehicle parked in the VA Federal Credit Union driveway behind the store and fled the area, traveling north on Baker Road, the release said.

The suspect, who had a slender build, was wearing a tan or yellowish Aeropostale hoodie, a black baseball cap, black pants and black shoes, the release said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call sheriff's Deputy Michael P. St. Clair at 304-267-7000 or the Berkeley County Crime Solvers hotline at 304-267-4999.
