Fairview Fishing Rodeo set for April 30 at Claud E. Kitchens Outdoor School

The annual Fairview Fishing Rodeo at Claud E. Kitchens Outdoor School at Fairview will be Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Students and families are welcome to attend. Admission and activities are free.

The Albert Powell Fish Hatchery will provide stocked trout. Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase at the Fairview Bus Pavilion.

Prizes will be awarded in the following age groups: prekindergarten through grade 5; grades 6 to 8; and grades 9 to 12. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in each age group for longest trout caught.

The top three finishers in each age group in three additional categories will also receive prizes: longest fish of any species, not including trout, shortest fish, and most fish caught of any species.

The event will also serve as Fairview's celebration for Earth Day 2011.

A special dedication ceremony will be held at noon for the new Chestnut Tree Interpretation Center, constructed by Eagle Scout David Paddack.

Directions to outdoor school: Take Exit 18 off Interstate 70 at Clear Spring.

Go north into Clear Spring on Md. 68. Turn left on U.S. 40. Continue one block and turn right at the traffic light on Martin Street.

At the end of Martin Street, turn right on Broadfording Road and travel approximately 100 yards. Turn left on Draper Road.

The entrance to outdoor school is about one-third of a mile from the intersection on the left.
