Opal Mae (Bishop) Tenney, 89, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at her home in Florida.

Born Sept. 4, 1921, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Marshall Brant and Anna Kathryn (Kern) Bishop.

She was the wife of the late Robert Henry Tenney Sr., who died Sept. 1, 1995.

In addition to being a housewife, Opal taught reading and job skills to disabled adults at the Bancroft School in Haddonfield, N.J. She was a member of the Washington Square United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, Md.

Opal is survived by one daughter, Gail B. Collis of Inwood, W.Va.; one son, Robert H. Tenney Jr., of Aurora, Colo.; two grandsons, Matthew A. Tenney and Christopher A. Tenney; two great-grandchildren, Braedon A Tenney and Bria G. Tenney; and two sisters, Delmonte Houpt and Twila Thurston.

In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna P. Godlove and Mildred Wheeler.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, at the Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Her pastor, the Rev Jerry L. Lowans, will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011 at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Washington Square United Methodist Church, 538 Washington Ave., Hagerstown MD 21740, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 5 Public Square, Hagerstown MD 21740.
