Police: Washington County school bus sidewipes car in Hagerstown

April 12, 2011

A Washington County school bus sideswiped a car Tuesday afternoon on North Potomac Street in Hagerstown as the two vehicles were traveling south, according to a city police officer.

The driver of the bus was traveling in the right lane of the street at about 2:36 p.m. and didn't see the car traveling beside him in a blind spot, Officer Chris Watt said.

The bus tried to turn left onto Broadway when it sideswiped the passenger side of the car, Watt said. The front bumper of the bus was bent in half, he said.

The school bus was full of students, but no one was hurt, he said.

Watt said he did not have the name of the bus driver with him when contacted.
