Silent auction at First Christian Church

There will be a silent auction at First Christian Church on Saturday, May 7, to benefit the Created to Be Me Camp.  

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bids will close at 12:45 p.m. Tickets cost $10, which includes lunch served at 12:15 p.m.

The church is at 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown. Tickets are available at the church office at 301-733-0144 or from Teens Have Choices at 301-671-3000.


TOPS 0446

Joanne Ph. was the thinner winner for the week with a loss of 3.6 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446. Sue was runner-up with a 3.2-pound loss. Jeanne R’s name was drawn from the ha-ha box.

After taking care of announcements and some business, Mary honored Elise, chapter queen. Mary then talked about weight loss as a journey.

On May 4, Herbert Walker, the Maryland state TOPS king, will be  the guest speaker.

Chorus seeks singers

The Mason-Dixon Barbershop Chorus invites men who like to sing to their rehearsals Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church. No experience is necessary.

The chorus sings four-part a cappella barbershop harmony. It is a nonprofit charitable organization performing in the Hagerstown area. For more information, call 301-739-7338.

Honor guard

American Legion Post 42 Honor Guard was formed many years ago to provide military honors for families at the time of a veteran’s death.

All honorably discharged veterans’ families are eligible for the service, without regard to the activity or membership in any veterans organization. A form showing honorable discharge and a request of the funeral director for the service is required.

The Legion provides this function free of charge. Donations for maintenance of equipment and uniforms are appreciated. For more information, call 240-217-5059.


TOPS 0077

TOPS Chapter 0077 presented its yearly chapter awards at its last meeting. The outgoing officers were recognized, and the new officers were installed. Many other special mentions and gestures of encouragement to various chapter members were included.

The chapter meets Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown. Weigh-in is at 7 a.m.

Walk fundraiser

Hope Wolfe will participate in the Susan G. Komen Walk For the Cure.

The walk will be Sept. 23 to 25 in Washington, D.C.

She needs to raise a minimum of $2,300. The walk helps raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. She will be walking 60 miles in three days.

A fundraiser will be held Thursday, April 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at CiCi’s Pizza in Hagerstown. The menu includes all-you-can-eat pizza, salad and dessert for $4.99. Those ages 4 to 10 pay $2.99 and those 3 and younger eat for free. CiCi’s Pizza is next to Martin’s on Wesel Boulevard.
