AMVETS Post 14 honors essay contest winners

At an awards ceremony March 12 at the Fort Ritchie Community Center, John Franklin Hutzell Memorial AMVETS Post 14 Commander Dennis J. Wenthe presented the 2011 Americanism essay contest winners with awards.

Kacee Schindel, a ninth-grader at North Hagerstown High School, took first place along with Josie Walling, a fifth-grader at Maugansville Elementary School. Each received $100.

Wenthe also presented first-place awards in the AADAA (AMVETS Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse) program.

Schindel and Walling took first place with $100 each and Alisha Smith of Smithsburg Elementary took second place and won $50.
