Washington County Department of Social Services

The Washington County Department of Social Services held its 22nd annual Employee Recognition Day on March 18 at its headquarters at 122 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

The day’s activities included an awards ceremony, during which employees were recognized for their outstanding performance and contributions, and for their participation in the agency’s Continuous Quality Improvement Program, which has been in place for 12 years.

The following awards were given: Director’s Award for Distinguished Service, Sharon Shafer, family investment supervisor; Employee of the Year, Faye Stauch, family investment job center specialist; Outstanding Supervisor, Russell Citro, family services supervisor; and Support Person of the Year, Sandy Blickenstaff, budget analyst.

Agency value awards also were awarded: Collaboration Value Award, Cathy Heagy, family investment specialist; Communication Value Award, Mark Conrad, family services caseworker; Compassion Value Award, Tammie Campher, social worker, family finding; Human Dignity Value Award, Sandy Davis, office services clerk, family investment; Integrity Value Award, Ginger Griffith, fiscal accounts technician; Quality of Services Value Award, Khya Funk, child support specialist; and Respect Value Award, Eddie Van Metre, social worker, family services.

Outstanding Community Partner Awards were granted to Susan J. MacDonald, executive director of the Washington County Commission on Aging; and Brett Wilson, Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Chambersburg Cardinals

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Jessica Ulanow and Chrystal Shumate are the new event coordinators for the business operations department of the Chambersburg Cardinals minor league football organization.

Ulanow will also assist in the media-relations department as a sportswriter. She comes to the organization from the Washington, D.C., area. She earned her associate degree from Howard Community College, was assistant editor of the college newspaper and earned a bachelor of science degree in communication studies from Towson University.

Ulanow works in Hagerstown as a technical recruiter for an IT solutions and service company. She lives in Fayetteville, Pa., with her husband, son and dog.

Shumate originally hails from Cleveland. She is working as the director of sales with a local entertainment company and works part time for a catering company.

Shumate lives in McConnellsburg, Pa.


Jeff Schlossnagle has been promoted to director of sales for the North Division of Omnicell.

He graduated from Smithsburg High School in 1992 and Elon College in 1997. Schlossnagle and his wife, Renee, live in Hampstead, N.C., with their daughter, Peyton, and son, Jake.

He is the son of Rita and Greg Kugler of Waynesboro, Pa., and James and Sue Schlossnagle of Williamsport, Md.
