WHAG-TV anchor Mary King has been selected as Hagerstown's new communications manager, city officials said Friday.

King, a Hagerstown resident, will join the city Community and Economic Development Department under Director John Lestitian.

She will start at an annual salary of $68,286, less a 3.8 percent salary reduction through June 30, the same reduction imposed on all employees during the current fiscal year, City Human Resources Director Donna Frazier said.

The duties of Karen Giffin, city director of public relations and marketing, were divided during a recent city restructuring to create Giffin's new position of community affairs manager, as well as the communications manager post.

King will work to expand the city's communication programs and image-building efforts to continue the re-invention of the city in the eyes of residents, visitors and investors, Lestitian said in the release.

King brings a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism/communications and more than seven years of mass communications experience to her new position, according to the release.

She will begin her new job on May 2.
