Deputies called to site of shooting

Deputies were called to investigate an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday morning at a house in the Leitersburg area, Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore said.

Mullendore said the man was taken to Meritus Medical Center, where he was being kept on life support.

A Maryland state trooper and deputies from the sheriff's office responded to the scene.

Death probed in Cascade area

The Washington County Sheriff's Office was investigating the death of a man Thursday morning in his home on Military Road in the Cascade area, officials said.

The sheriff's office was not ready to release the cause of death Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff's office was assisted by Maryland State Police.

Washington County Sheriff's Office reports incidents

The following incidents were reported Wednesday and Thursday by the Washington County Sheriff's Office:

  • A burglary in the 17400 block of Apple Blossom Court.
  • A burglary in the 800 block of Antietam Drive.
  • Vandalism in the first block of North Main Street in Smithsburg.
  • A theft in the 17100 block of Cole Road.
  • Coins were stolen in the 11100 block of Shalom Lane.

Franklin County Emergency Services reports incidents


 The following incidents were reported Wednesday by Franklin County Emergency Services:

  • At 11:06 p.m., a commercial fire alarm in the 700 block of Fifth Avenue.
