Mail Call - April 5

April 04, 2011

“This is for the rookie senator that wants to register motor scooters. At least we’re saving gas. Bicycles don’t need a helmet, they have pedals, they don’t need eyeglasses, and you build a path for them. Get with it. You will need all of our votes someday again.”
— Funkstown

“I was born and raised in Sharpsburg, and I think the $50,000 for the — money for the symphony on Independence Day could be better used to help food banks or people with their high fuel bills, instead of — let people should go to the Suns stadium or the fireworks at the fairground. We don’t ... most of the people that go there aren’t even from here. They’re from away from here.”
— Hagerstown

“I think it’s wonderful, it’s a great idea, that the Senate, our state lawmakers, are stepping toward regulating mopeds and motor scooters and requiring them to have licenses, insurance and safety equipment. This, I think, is a smart idea. I would much rather see this, which involves safety on our streets, than these other stupid things, like a flush tax. Make the comparison. Here’s a future law, possibly, to ensure safety on the street, and the flush tax was nothing but another socialistic tax.”
— Hagerstown

“I just got finished reading David Limbaugh’s comments on Social Security and Medicare, and what George Bush tried to privatize. What he fails to mention — yes, Democrats all voted against it. What he fails to mention is that all but 10 House Republicans, all but 10 voted against it, too. So you won’t put that in the paper. That’s why you should drop this bum. He ... tells half-truths to make Republicans look good, and it’s just not right and it’s not ethical. And you call yourself a newspaper? Shame on you.”
— Hagerstown

“Tim Rowland was absolutely correct on Sunday, March 20, when he stated we lost when gay marriage was not approved. Religion should not have been a part of this debate, but apparently our representatives think it’s better to live together instead of being married.”
— Hagerstown

“OK, now the sports page has hit rock bottom. A picture of the Washington County boys basketball player of the year standing in front of a rented storage bin? Please.”
— Washington County

“I personally am sick of hearing the commissioners talk about they’re just working on jobs. The housing market is gone. There is no one to buy the work of those few who may still have jobs with developers. The county commissioners need to find another area for jobs to be created in. Of course, that’s going to take some work and some creativity, and they probably won’t get as much compensation for that. Jobs in another area, people.”
— Hagerstown

“I would like to know if anybody out there has ever seen a robin with a white head like an eagle. There’s a robin up here on Georgia Avenue a few people have seen, and it has a white head like an eagle, and we were just wondering if that’s unusual or what.”
— Hagerstown
