  • Reflective markers are missing from a concrete barrier on Wolfsville Road in this photo submitted last month by Rusty Williams.

The problem: Reflective markers were missing from a concrete median on Wolfsville Road just east of its junction with Federal Lookout Road, south of Smithsburg.

Nearby resident Rusty Williams said the concrete barrier used to have markers with reflectors sticking up from it, but those had been missing for more than a year.

Without the markers, some drivers unfamiliar with the road have hit the divider, Williams said.

“I had a friend hit the concrete and mess up the bottom of his car,” he wrote.

Who could fix it: Washington County Highway Department

What they say: Highway Department Director Edwin Plank said in an email Thursday that the county ordered a new style of markers, which arrived the previous week and were waiting to be installed. Plank followed up Friday, saying the new markers had been installed.
