Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - April 2

April 02, 2011

Thumbs up ....
To the Rockland Woods Parent-Teacher Organization, which recently made an $8,700 donation to the school to buy classroom magazines and science materials, and to help pay for student field trips.

Thumbs up ....
To the Hagerstown chapter of SCORE, which recently hosted a free brown-bag lunch roundtable discussion on social media. The 90-minute gathering offered small-business owners a unique networking opportunity.

Thumbs up ....
To the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball team, which advanced to the school’s first NCAA Final Four by defeating USC, Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and No. 1 seed Kansas. The Rams have given hope to underdogs everywhere.

Thumbs down ....
To Carol Schnuphase, a 47-year-old Michigan woman who scammed thousands of dollars from donors by drugging her 12-year-old son to make him appear to have cancer. A judge sentenced her Tuesday to a year in the county jail, a sentence that her family complained was too lenient.
