Edward L. “Stoney” Stonebreaker Sr., 73, of Halfway, Md., died on Friday, April 1, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on July 16, 1937, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late William Taylor Stonebreaker and Edna Keefer Stonebreaker.
He graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1957.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1959.
He worked for Chaney-Beatty Trucking, and then Womerdorf Trucking. He was then transferred to Roadway Express, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of the Local Teamsters 992 and Improved Order of Redmen, Conococheague Tribe 84, Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lonna L. Stonebreaker; one daughter, Edna Denise Cline and husband, Richard Lee III, of Hagerstown; two sons, Edward Leroy Stonebreaker Jr. and Ronald William Stonebreaker and wife, Lisa Diane, all of Hagerstown; two sisters, Ruthie Stonebreaker of Cumberland and Jenny Kerns of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one brother, Jerry Stonebreaker and wife, Dorothy, of Cumberland; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Brian Scott Shook Sr.; two sisters, Doris Sinn and Kathleen Welsh; and one brother, Charles Stonebreaker.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
