Mr. Bernard F. Besecker, 87, of 254 W. 2nd St., Waynesboro, Pa., and formerly of 111 CV Ave., Waynesboro, entered into eternal rest at 3:35 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1923, in Quincy, Pa., he was the son of the late Emanuel and Mary (Hartman) Besecker. He spent his entire life in the Waynesboro area.

Mr. Besecker attended Quincy High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. During his military career, he received many service medals including a commendation for exceptionally meritorious conduct for actions performed during his time in Italy.

He and his wife, Hilda D. (Dull) Besecker, were married Dec. 20, 1947, in Hagerstown, Md. They lived at their CV Avenue home from 1958 until 2009. Mrs. Besecker passed away March 17, 1997.

Mr. Besecker was employed by Letterkenny following his service time, and later with W.B. Thompson and Sons feed mill. After retiring in 1985, he worked for several service stations in the Waynesboro area and part-time at Martins grocery store.

He was a lifetime member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro and umpired Little League for several years. He enjoyed horse racing in Charles Town, W.Va., and time spent with his family in Myrtle Beach. He was a hard worker and loved his family.

Mr. Besecker is survived by three daughters, Jere L. Thoman of Waynesboro, Dotti S. Baker of Waynesboro and Carol Sue Besecker of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hilda Misner of Tomstown, Pa., Anna Horwath of Waynesboro and Janet Fleagle of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
