HAGERSTOWN — The city of Hagerstown has selected Kristopher West of Hagerstown as its new downtown business retention and recruitment manager.

The city advertised the position in February to help drive economic development. It was created as part of a citywide operations restructuring that started in June 2010.

John Lestitian, director of community and economic development, said West was selected for his negotiating skills and history of working with property and small businesses.

“He not only brings strong skills but has a passion to see our city center transformed,” Lestitian said in a city news release.

West will start at a salary of about $53,000 per year, Lestitian said.

West has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson College and will be awarded a Master of Arts degree next month from the University of Kansas, according to the release.
He is scheduled to start with the city on April 11, the release said.

“I share the city’s vision of a vibrant city center and look forward to working with the dedicated business owners and the various professional organizations as a member of Hagerstown’s Community and Economic Development Team,” West said in the release.
