James William (Bill) Kegley, 67, of 506 Quincy Hall Drive, Myrtle Beach, S.C., died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Julia Manor Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 29, 1944, in Beckley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Horace Hampton and Macie Blanch Kuhn Hopkins. He was raised by James and Jean Kegley.

He was employed with the police force in the District of Columbia for more than six years.

He loved sports, including the Dallas Cowboys football team and basketball. He loved vacationing on cruises and singing country music.

He was a Christian and loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sherry Kegley; four daughters, Sindie Monte of Crofton, Md., Lisa Chestlo and husband, Tom, of Laurel, Md., Wendy Kegley of Gaithersburg, Md., and Amy Hendershot and husband, Michael, of Hagerstown; two sons, Mark Kegley and wife, Lisa, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Lucas Kegley of Hyattsville, Md.; two sisters, Adonna Parrott and Margaret Nelson; one brother, John Hopkins; grandchildren, Steven Moluski of Crofton, Zachary Kegley of Cape Coral, Michael Moluski of Crofton, Trevor Chestlo of Laurel, Taylor Hendershot of Hagerstown, Brooke Chestlo of Laurel, Isabella Hendershot of Hagerstown, Kaleb Kegley of Hyattsville, and Lexi Kegley of Hyattsville.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ava Stine; and two brothers, Buddy Hopkins and Sonny Hopkins.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, Md. Pastor Gayle Ruble of Upton, Pa., will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5 Public Square, Suite 307, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
